The Engravings of
Alonzo Foringer
Alonzo Foringer (1878-1948) created a number of wonderful engravings for
the American Banknote Company in the early part of the 1900's. These were used
as the vignettes on stock & bond certificates, banknotes and stamps. The
works, of which Copyright was and still is held by ABN, were unsigned. Our
attribution of these images to Mr. Foringer is therefore not 100% positive.
But his unique style of human representation, and especially his masterful
rendering of drapery, makes for a reasonably good guess. Here are some of our
